Leaving your personal life at home…Seriously??
Make no mistake, this is your journey and it is unique.
The simple fact is, we bring ourselves, our ‘whole selves’ to the workplace. That is, we bring our values, our experiences, our fears, our culture and our behaviours. Often, we don’t realise how unique that makes us because we spend so much time trying to leave our personal lives at home (who ever decided that was a good idea?) but we can’t just split ourselves down the middle and take a different person to work.
Well, often when we try to do that we can encounter problems; imagine suffering a bereavement, or struggling with an illness or coping with challenges in our personal lives. Work can be a welcome distraction, but sometimes, under those circumstances, it can be difficult to function, behave or perform to our best.
So how can I help?
Working together, I guide you, help you and occasionally challenge you on your underlying thoughts, patterns of behaviour and beliefs. Mostly I am in coaching mode; sometimes I am a mentor and sometimes I am the biggest pain in the ass because I know we’ve hit on something important and I won’t let it go.
Sometimes you will hate me for it, when, in that moment you are facing your own fears. Sometimes, we will burst into laughter, (I can never work out if this is from relief or you might actually find me amusing).
More often though, you will love it, for the relief you feel and answers you find. There is nothing quite like that ‘OMG’ moment when you unlock the very thing that has held you back, when it seems so blindingly obvious, you have no idea why you couldn’t see it before.
Knowledge is like underwear.
It’s useful to have but not necessary to show it off.
